Work Stuff

Been a busy mornin’

I got all the users machines moved over to DHCP this morning. Now I can start working on getting the wins server moved off of it’s current box. That should take a few hours. Spent the rest of the morning upgrading some of the mail server software. I need a break from Windows so spent the rest of the morning in my Linux environment.

Spent a few hours at Home Depot looking at kitchen flooring and cabinets and counter tops. Then went home and tried to figure out how to get what I want to fit in the room. I think I might have to remove a wall or part of it. I need to get Dean over and take a look and see if it’s possible or not. If not I have to re-figure out my layout. More on this when I get more things figured out.

Get to go out to my first client as a legal business tonight…that’s right I got all the papers filed and am now a Limited Liability Company. Shouldn’t be to bad tonight just get his modem working and fix a mouse problem…. more on this after the job is done…..

Windows networking and TCP/IP

Spent the day yesterday working out the plans to move the WINS server to another machine. Decided the easiest way is to convert all the client machines to DHCP that way I can change the setting once and then force a releasing of the IP addresses. So last night I cleaned out the DNS server of all users static address and am now going around to all the users machines and switching them to DHCP.

A New Start and the Start of 2005 1

Back to work today after a nice long 4 day weekend. The New Years Eve party was a blast. Everyone had a great time and the food was out of this world.

Now that the new year has started it’s time to get back into the swing of work and get some old dusty projects finished and out of the way to move in some new ones. I came in on Sat and yesterday to get some stuff done that I can’t do during the week. I got the new server moved into the server closet and moved the companies original server out and into my office. It will be retired as soon as I get some things migrated off of it. I was going to take my time doing that but the drives are so loud that I am sure my neighbors are going to start to complain.

On the todo list for today is:
1. Get the budget done
2. Map out the network changes
3. Start moving apps off server-1

That’s it for now. One of the resolutions for the year is to get a log entry up every day (weekday at least)… 🙂

Busy busy and more busy and now throw in a trip to Cleavland in a few weeks….

Spent the last few weeks trying to get ready for the winter and my trip to Cleveland (more on that in a bit). For the last few weekends, I have been into work either getting the “Big Cube” cleaned or working converting a few machines from 98 to XP. I have been to NYC a few times. Twice to the new office space and a third to get the tape backup installed on the NYC server. It looks like I will be going to NYC a lot between now and the trip. We are moving the office from mid-town down to the financial district. From the new office suite, we can look right down into the World Trade Centers hole. It will be interesting watching them convert it into the park. I have taken the Path train from Newark to the WTC site now 2 times not a bad way to get into the city. I will miss Penn Station.

Now the trip to Cleveland…

Well the month of July is flying by….

So in houner of my birthday a few days ago here is a nice picture of me at the age of 1. I already had that “I am in a mellow mood” look at th age of 1. There are a bunch of new pictures in the gallery of me and my daughter Avery. I have been trying to get a box of pictures scanned so I can move to the boxes of pictures that my parents brought up from my grandmoms house when they were clearing it out.

Spent the last 2 weeks working on a Power Point presentation for work. The total slides came to 172 that comes out to 2.8 slides a min for a 1 hour presentation. But the guys who presented it did it with 2 min to spare so I am happy about that. If we get the job then we will all be happy. I real don’t like doing these Power Point things this one took up way to much time and me away from my family.

Talking about family most of mine are at the Jersey shore this week. Fran and family showed up from Michigan on Sat. They will all be heading to Lawrenceville on Sat to help get ready for the La Vigna picnic which is in 9 days. It should be a good time. Dean is almost done with the calender. We ran a copy off to see how it is and found some room for improvement. The CD rom of all the issues of the paper is all done and just needs to be burned multiple times. The T-shirts are done and look great. I will try to get a picture of them to put up on the sight…..

Wow hard to believe that my birthday has passed and I am now 37 years old. I don’t have a problem with getting old unlike my Cousin John who’s birthday is today. HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOHN!!!! I just see it as a passage to a better time. I am working on having more fun and not letting work bother me so much…hasn’t been working really well lately with an XP roll-out hanging over my head and the whole PowerPoint thing that took 2 weeks.

Well, that’s it for now…..

A little Queen this morning got the day going… 🙂

Oh, you’re the best friend
That I ever had
I’ve been with you such a long time
You’re my sunshine
And I want you to know
That my feelings are true
I really love you
(ooh) oh, you’re my best friend

Ooh, you make me live

Office move, Server Crash and life

I am alive and kicking. Just been real busy getting the serve back up and running. I am about 99% done with it. I still have to finish the Lavingaonline.com site. I lost the database for that one so I have decided to move it from postnuke to Movable type. No one was using any of the features except the photo gallery and back issues of the family news paper. So I moved them over and will be getting the site up either today or tomorrow.

In between all this I had to get the Harrisburg office moved into a bigger facility. I spent all day Sunday and most of the day Monday getting it done. They have everything but a connection to the Internet. I had to order a T-1 because verizon lied to the local carrier out there and then told them the day before the move that they couldn’t provide DSL because the switch wasn’t provisioned for it.

Other then that all things are going well. Once the Harrisburg thing is done I will be moving onto the XP roll out for the company and then the Server 2003 roll out after that.

Carolyn and I have also started the South Beach Diet. I am in need of losing at least 40 Lbs. I studied a bunch of the current diets. The South Beach one to me looks like the best one because it gets you eating right and doesn’t make you count calories or anything. Just really stay off the starchy foods and limit your sugar intake. We are currently in the middle of phase 1 and I am feeling a whole lot better. I have stopped drinking coke-colla for awhile so I hope that I can lose my 40 lbs.

Water feature in “the Big Cube”

Came in this morning to find a big leak right over the desk I use for a workbench. This is just what I need. The kicker was I was in last night to do some quick things. So this happened after 6:30 pm when I left. I had to wait till someone with the digital camera came in. By then I had gotten all the wet stuff off the desk and had started putting out buckets. It’s funny now they will have to replace the carpet tiles in that area. I will make sure of that because there is nothing worse than the smell of wet dog and wet carpet.

Will keep you updated…..

My ears are still ringing…

Weekend was a good one. Spent Saturday working on home projects. Carolyn and I decided not to go any where for vacation while Avery is at my parents and try to get some projects done at home. We have also decided to rip down the paneling in the kitchen and put up dry wall. I figure it will take me a week to rip and install and tape and spackle.

Spent Sunday just hanging out waiting to go to the Gov’t Mule show at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park. Great show and well worth the drive. On bass was Andy Hess from the Black Crows. Audley Freed from the Black Crows was also there. Danny Louis on keyboards was great. He gave alot of depth to the whole show. Henry and I saw them walking the boardwalk before the show.

Set1:
Blind Man
Lay Your Burden Down
Bad Little Doggie ->
How Many More Years -> Higher Ground tease -> HMMY
Out Of The Rain
Sometimes Salvation (Audley Freed plays rest of 1st set)
Banks Of The Deep End
Sco-Mule
30 Days In The Hole (preceded by Warren saying the next song is of a serious
subject matter that applies to a lot of people there)

Set2:
Rockin’ Horse
Beautifully Broken
Thorazine Shuffle
Time To Confess
Mule -> I’ve Been Workin’ -> Mule ->
Drums
She Said She Said (Audley Freed plays rest of set + encore)
Effigy
Painted Silver Light
Keys -> Soulshine

Encore: Creep

Asbury Park was a little depressing, it reminded me of Atlantic City without the casinos. No one was on the boardwalk and really no business to speak of. The convention center looks good and I will go back for a show there.

It looks like I will have to go to Harrisburg tomorrow since their print server died.

I’m going to melt in this heat but I love it…

Wow can you say fry an egg on the pavement hot.

Spent most of the morning Monday at the NY office. Got most of there problems fixed. Then spent yesterday working around the office getting little projects done.

Monday night had to sleep in Avery’s room because the electric socket her AC plugs into died. Dean thinks the wire broke, so we are going to run a new one down to the basement instead of up to the attic. It is just to hot up there.

Spent a few hours last night back at work getting the web tracking software working again for the owner.

Going to spend the 4th of July just working around the house. It’s going to be to hot to do anything out side. I just hope it’s a little cooler on Sunday for the Gov’t Mule concert at the Stone Pony.

Have some DNS work to do to day so I will work on the most of the morning.

Sleep good and I need more of it

Today we mourn the death of one of the great basses of all time John Entwistle of The Who. He will be missed.

Last night we had a good storm that cooled everything down. So that meant no air conditioning in the bedroom. It was the best night sleep I had all week. I even over slept this morning. Thank goodness the cat started playing in the bedroom and woke me up.

Worst visit to the NY office I have had yet. The firewall box took a hit in route with Fed-Ex, so I had to get that put back together and working. Once I got it working and connected to the router. I could ping both sides of the router, but when I try to ping the name server no joy. The DSL line was down 2 days after the install. At least my install engineer at UUNET is cool and got right onto the problem. Now if I can only keep him past the 30 days for all the problems I know I am going to have with this DSL.. I hate the telecom situation in NY city.

Now Verizon has to come out and take a look because UUNET and Rhythms couldn’t even see the router but I had a green ready light.

Just plan to finish up the jabber server today and design a quick web page for it.
