Are we sure the Dark Side isn’t really the place to be??

Wow what a week. The La Vigna picnic was a blast. Hung out with Ira and his friend Molly as well as my dad’s cousin Angelo’s kids who are finally at the age of acceptance by the over 30 crew. So Jule and Bea welcome to the dark side you have landed among thieves.

Things are moving ahead with my father in-law and getting him better. The hospital doesn’t think he will be going back to his current residence but to a managed care facility. Charlotte and Carolyn and I sat down last night and crunched the numbers and came up with the magic numbers range for what we can all afford to pay a month. It also has been decided Carolyn has to get a job as soon as Avery goes back to school.

Now on to Avery the demon child….she is back home after only 1.5 days with my parents. She cried and complained the whole time in the car on the way to Boston. My mom finally just turned around and brought her home. Avery is now on super secret probation. She is not allowed to see any new movies, watch TV (digital cable just payed for it self by allowing me to lock out all her TV stations). She will also be doing allot more work around the house. I have lined up baby sitters so Carolyn and I can go out like we planed to do while she was away. At least now I won’t have to drive to Bath to get her.

The laptop has started a slow death I think. I told Carolyn we have to get another one and she agreed. So the hunt is on today to find good Linux friendly laptop at a reasonable price. More on this later.

I now must pick the 35-40 age bracket

Wow what a week…

On the kitchen wall front. I got the mudding done and sanded and got them primed and ready for painting. The ceiling has been primed with killz and is waiting for paint. I won’t have time to finish the painting before my parents show up tonight(I think). I did brush on a patch of the wall color so the can see what it looks like.

Carolyn’s dad is doing better and is back to his usual self. Drove Carolyn and Avery to the hospital to visit him last night. It’s a nice area right down the street form one of my old alma matters Newtown Friends School.

My parents hit town tonight and are staying at my aunts house, but I am sure they will be at our house most of the time.

Avery is starting to get a little nervous about going to Bath for the month of August. Carolyn and I are looking forward to it though…this way Carolyn can get some painting done and we can get the kitchen done and maybe get her office started.

Not much going on at work. Looking forward to the picnic on Sat. and just having a break from computers for a day.

1 days till Birthday and Still No Party Plans

Took last night off from dry wall work. Spent Monday night mudding and taping since Carolyn and Charlotte were at the hospital with there dad. I got all the screws covered and all the seams taped.

Tuesday I wet sanded all and applied the second coat of mud and screwed up the inside corner. I hope to get it finished tonight. I took last night off to go food shopping and just take it easy. Finally got around to getting the web based mailing list manager up and running for the La Vigna mailing list, now Dean will be able to add and subtract people.

Carolyn’s father did suffer a stroke over the weekend, but is doing better. They are planning on moving him up to the rehabilitation floor today or tomorrow. He has lost a little of his vision in his left eye and now his good hand shakes a little more. The doctors think with rehab they can get him back to where he was physically before the stroke.

Well tomorrow is my birthday and again no party…maybe next year it will happen.

Dry Wall Heavy, Back Sore. 4 days till Birthday

Back to New York today. I hope to be there only for about an hour. The computer in question is getting a lot of “Performed an Illegal Operation” when the user tries to print from IE and Office. I am taking a page from Simon over at www.bofhcam.org and just reghosting it with the image I made last year.

Spent the weekend working on the kitchen. I pulled off the paneling on Saturday morning then spent most of the afternoon filling the voids and holes with srtuctolite. I love that stuff, hardens in like 20 min after application to the wall and is rock hard. Spent Saturday evening hanging out with Avery watching TV and playing, after we went to see the paint guy Al at Sears to get the paint for the kitchen.

Charlotte came down and took Carolyn over to there Dads. When they got there things were not good and they had to cancel there big dinner out to the Washington Crossing Inn. Sunday wasn’t that much better for them…

I conned my cousin John into getting up early and taking me to Home Depot to pick up the sheet rock (dry wall) and other things. I was back by 9:30 and couldn’t talk him into helping me hang it. It took me about 7 hours to hang 7 pieces. I also had to re-frame the old door way to the Basement and so there were some studs to attach the dry all to next to the fridge. I think it all ready looks better.

I will mud and tape tonight. I hope to have it all done by Thursday so I can prime the walls, Killz and Paint the ceiling on Friday (my birthday) and then paint the walls on Saturday.

7 Days Till My Birthday

Wow what a day at Six Flags Great Adventure. We got to the park around 11:30 and headed right to Nitro. We rode Nitro 3 times then headed to the Batman Ride ended up riding it only once.

We never made it onto the Batman & Robin Chiller due to a long line and a break down. We made it across the park to Medusa the second best ride for us at the park yesterday.

Over all the day was good and fast. We enjoyed the rides and kept looking for Mike Foley since he was at the park to sign autographs.

Today has been non stop work. As is every day back in the office after a day off.

9 Days Till My Birthday

Big hello to Nancy at work who actually admitted to reading this journal….

Temperature finally drop to a more bearable temp fro everyone at home.

Been working on getting the plans together for the new mail server. I decided to buy an Adaptec Raid controller an another drive taking my drive count to 4. So at 36 GB a piece and losing the last drive to parity I will get a whopping 108 GBS of space. That should be okay for this server. It will be hosting the Web,Ftp and Mail server on it.

I hope to get started on taking the paneling down in the kitchen tonight so I can put up the drywall on Sat.

I have tomorrow off to go to Six Flags Great Adventure with Henry, Tika, Steve Roco, John Allen and his kids. I just want to ride the roller coasters and skip the water park so I am going to end up on my own for a while.

Have to go back to the New York office next week because one of the Compaq’s I switched to one of the people up there is already screwed up. I am just going to re ghost it with the original image I made last summer. If that doesn’t fix it then the user is a jinx…..

My ears are still ringing…

Weekend was a good one. Spent Saturday working on home projects. Carolyn and I decided not to go any where for vacation while Avery is at my parents and try to get some projects done at home. We have also decided to rip down the paneling in the kitchen and put up dry wall. I figure it will take me a week to rip and install and tape and spackle.

Spent Sunday just hanging out waiting to go to the Gov’t Mule show at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park. Great show and well worth the drive. On bass was Andy Hess from the Black Crows. Audley Freed from the Black Crows was also there. Danny Louis on keyboards was great. He gave alot of depth to the whole show. Henry and I saw them walking the boardwalk before the show.

Set1:
Blind Man
Lay Your Burden Down
Bad Little Doggie ->
How Many More Years -> Higher Ground tease -> HMMY
Out Of The Rain
Sometimes Salvation (Audley Freed plays rest of 1st set)
Banks Of The Deep End
Sco-Mule
30 Days In The Hole (preceded by Warren saying the next song is of a serious
subject matter that applies to a lot of people there)

Set2:
Rockin’ Horse
Beautifully Broken
Thorazine Shuffle
Time To Confess
Mule -> I’ve Been Workin’ -> Mule ->
Drums
She Said She Said (Audley Freed plays rest of set + encore)
Effigy
Painted Silver Light
Keys -> Soulshine

Encore: Creep

Asbury Park was a little depressing, it reminded me of Atlantic City without the casinos. No one was on the boardwalk and really no business to speak of. The convention center looks good and I will go back for a show there.

It looks like I will have to go to Harrisburg tomorrow since their print server died.

I’m going to melt in this heat but I love it…

Wow can you say fry an egg on the pavement hot.

Spent most of the morning Monday at the NY office. Got most of there problems fixed. Then spent yesterday working around the office getting little projects done.

Monday night had to sleep in Avery’s room because the electric socket her AC plugs into died. Dean thinks the wire broke, so we are going to run a new one down to the basement instead of up to the attic. It is just to hot up there.

Spent a few hours last night back at work getting the web tracking software working again for the owner.

Going to spend the 4th of July just working around the house. It’s going to be to hot to do anything out side. I just hope it’s a little cooler on Sunday for the Gov’t Mule concert at the Stone Pony.

Have some DNS work to do to day so I will work on the most of the morning.

Still Hot

Spent most of the day working on Nettracker for the owner of the company. Had to wipe out all the data so it would start pulling the right names of the users.

Dropped Carolyn and Avery off at the mall so they could get some exercise in the AC. They were getting stir crazy.

Probable going to throw the Blade Runner DVD in that I got the other day from Netflix while I re due the firewall. I want to get a 2.4.x kernel on it so I can use IPTABLES instead of IPCHAINS. That should only take most of the night.

Weekend is over and was to short

Spent most of Saturday working on the family laptop. Got up early and decided to put on Mandrake 8.2 because it was supposed to support the D-Link Wireless card we use right out of the box….NOPE. Then I tried to use the Linux- Wlan-NG software and that didn’t work either. By now it’s around noon and Carolyn is complaining that she wants to check her e-mail. I finally ended up putting Red Hat 7.3 back on and recompiling the kernel to support wireless networking,(why they don’t compile it in right off the bat is beyond me).

Sunday was better Carolyn and Avery and I went to see “Hey Arnold” the movie. Look for a review on Lavignaonline.com. It was good, but I think the cartoon is better.

Then spent the rest of the day just hanging and working around the house.

Going back to the New York office this morning to get the Internet setup finished and to figure out there printing problem. I want to be back to NJ by lunch
